More for Your Game: Scenarios, Cheaters and Add-Ons
We’ve collected all the new cheaters and scenarios we could find, and anything else we thought might help Mac gamers get as much enjoyment out of their games as possible. Cheaters can diminish your game experience if you’re not careful, but we trust you to know when to say when. Scenarios are usually made by our readers or others out there with the itch to create. We won’t take responsibility for their quality, but you’re sure to find some gems in what we bring you. The following is what we’ve found this month to give you more for your game.
• Marathon fans, listen up. The Marathon FAQ 2.0 will answer all your questions about everyone’s favorite space station. The Chapter Kit slideshow is a pretty tour of each chapter of the game. The Marathon Cheat 2.5 allows you to do anything you want in the game. The Marathon Kit includes saved games and levels so you can go anywhere you want. Marathon Secrets 1.0 lets you in on almost all the hidden places. And Maxathon 1.0 allows you to max out your Marathon character. Whew! There are so many cheaters you’d think there’d been a lot of people waiting for this game.
• Fantasoft, the publishers of the shareware role-playing game Realmz, have released the first add-on adventure, Prelude to Pestilence. Your characters are transported to the city of Mountainview, where evil creatures walk in the daylight. The adventure can only be played if you’ve registered your copy of Realmz. Fantasoft has also released the Realmz PC Editor, with which you can create and edit Realmz characters. Simon Lawson has released a new version of his Bywater Hints AppleGuide for Realmz. You’ll need Apple’s System 7.5 to use it. He’s also asking for tips, tricks, and hints on Prelude to Pestilence for inclusion in the Prelude Hints AppleGuide he is preparing. Check out the new guide and Simon’s request in the scenarios folder elsewhere on the CD.
• Flashback fans will find a folder on the CD with level codes and saved games to help them along, as well as a map of the first level of the game.
• For people trying to build their own houses with Glider PRO, one of the authors has created the Glider PRO Construction Set to help you make files smaller and simpler.
• Have you been playing Rescue, but you keep feeling wistful about the old, original Enterprise 1701? Now there’s the Rescue New Art Patch 2.1 that will exchange the graphics for you.
• SimTower magnates can increase their funds with SimTower Cheat 1.0. This one’s not guaranteed to be bug free, however.
• WolfEdit 1.1 has been released, and it now works with Wolf3D, 2nd Encounter. Although not every feature of 2nd Encounter is available, this will let you build all kinds of levels.
• And finally, we’ve collected a bunch of Glider PRO houses, Wolf3D encounters, SimCity 2000 cities, Gopher Golf greens, and MacSki slopes for your enjoyment. Round that out with text guides to Night Trap and Inherit the Earth, and you’ve got a little something for everyone.
The Update Files
Updates are new versions of programs that provide bug fixes or game enhancements to older versions. Sometimes an updater will fix a critical bug, sometimes it fixes something that has no bearing on your computer. You can come right here to find out what’s new and what it does. Then you can find the updaters you need on the IMG CD.
• Glider PRO has been updated to version 1.02. This update is a must for fans of the paper airplane game. New objects have been added, a new house is included, countless bugs have been squashed... it’s an essential upgrade.
• TacOps has been updated to version 0.1.1. It includes an updated photo of the HMMWV that will no longer lock up the program, updated scenarios compatible with changes in the game engine, and of course, an updater to the game that adds many user requests and bug fixes. Major Holdridge and Arsenal Publishing continue to provide excellent support for their users.
• SimTower has been updated to version 1.1. This version fixes a number of important bugs, including one with the Metro that may have been biting gamers.
• PlayMaker Football is back. And back again. PlayMaker Football 2.1 has been available since early December online, with the new for ‘94 NFL rule changes and a few tweaks here and there. Now version 2.1.1 is available, fixing a few minor matters. You can find it in the Demos folder.
• Flight Commander 2 has been updated to version 1.02. The bug fixes make the play-by-email game simpler and more reliable, and fix a few other things as well.
• The joystick makers have all announced new versions of their software. It seems Apple has discovered an ADB bug on Powerbook 160s and 180s. The Powerbook ADB Patch should solve those problems. CH Products’ FlightStick Pro software has been updated to include this patch. Thrustmaster has released a minor update to their Thrustmaster Strokes (to version 1.04) and Calibrator software (now version 1.03) for their joysticks that fixes minor bugs and makes cosmetic changes to the menu bar. It writes over any sets you may have changed though, so only use it if you’ve noticed problems. Advanced Gravis, maker of the MouseStick II, has released updated software for their joystick too. Version 3.3 of the software includes a new control panel, a disk-based user’s guide, a trouble-shooting guide, and 131 MouseStick sets.
